The next day we will leave the lodge every early so that we enter the Namib Naukluft National Park shortly after sunrise. From the park entrance at Sesriem, we drive for 60km towards Sossusvlei on a tarred road. On arrival, we will leave our vehicle and use a 4×4 shuttle service that will transport us through the very sandy terrain of the Tsauchab river-bed.

Sossusvlei is home to some of the highest sand dunes in the world. We will explore the area on foot, climbing and sliding down the dunes.  We will see Big Daddy and Big Mama dunes which dominate the landscape. The highlight for the day a walk to the famous Dead Vlei and take pictures of the 900-year-old dead camel thorn trees contrasted against the white floor of the pan.

The shuttle will then take us back to our car and we drive back. Along the way we can stop at the iconic Dune 45. If we still have energy, we can join others to climb up the dune or we can simply observe and take photographs from the bottom. Dune 45, the most photographed dune on earth (situated 45 km past Sesriem on the road to Sossusvlei). From here, driving back to Sesriem we take a short 4km drive to see the Sesriem Canyon. This canyon has been carved out of the landscape by the Tsauchab River. After this, we can return to our lodge to refresh and cool off the heat.

Day 3 - Sossusvlei to Windhoek

Today will be our last day in the desert. We will have a healthy breakfast, depart for Windhoek. We will drive through Solitaire, a settlement, at the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park which over the years has become a welcome desert stopover. We will have a chance to try out their famous apple pie. From Solitaire will drive through the most magnificent mountain scenery of the Naukluft. We will pass through small communities of Bűells Port, Klein Aub and the small town of Rehoboth. We arrive mid-afternoon and you will be dropped at your accommodation.
