Day 1 - Arrival In Windhoek

Our meet and greet representative will welcome you on your arrival at Windhoek International Airport. He will explain the trip and hand over your travel package including your map. He will also take you to the car rental company in Windhoek to complete all rental procedures. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the city, visit the museum, shop for essentials, or unwind at your accommodation. Should you be interested, we can book for you a city tour so you can discover the charm of the Windhoek and its grand historic buildings built in German architectural style. In the evening you can have diner at the famous Joe Beer House and try game meet delicacies like Zebra, Oryx, Springbok etc.

The first day takes you southwards for 280 kilometers to Kalahari Anib Lodge situated in the Kalahari Desert.  Visiting the Kalahari is like stepping into a world that feels both ancient and alive—it’s a place full of natural beauty, unique wildlife, and deep cultural roots.

The landcrape ranges from red sand dunes and golden grasslands. The sunsets are unreal. Despite being semi-arid, one can find animals like famous black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetahs, oryx, meerkats, and large herds of springbok.  the Kalahari also offers some of the best stargazing in the world—clear, massive skies lit up with stars.  It’s home to the San people (Bushmen), one of the oldest continuous cultures on Earth. Learning about their traditional way of life is a profound experience

Today you travel approximate 440km to Fish River Canyon. On the way close to Keetmaanshop, visit the Quiver Tree Forest, the great aloe trees of the Kalahari. The trees which are technically aloe plants are well adapted to dry places.

The journey to the canyon is long but definitely worth it as the second most visited tourist attraction in Namibia. Photos rarely reveal the reality of this massive and magnificent natural wonder.  The Fish River Canyon is the largest in Africa, and second only to the Grand Canyon worldwide.

When you’re there, you check in at your accommodation and proceed to enjoy stunning views of the canyon.  If you wish, you can take on one of the hiking trails.   What an end to the day. Then enjoy dinner and get some rest as tomorrow your journey continues.

After a hearty breakfast, you leave the Canyon and you’re off to the windy shore of diamond town of Luderitz.  The journey takes you through the village of Aus and you can make a refuelling stop. As you drive from Aus, be on lookout for wild desert horses. They are unique population of wild horses living in the Namib Desert in Namibia. The horses are believed to be descendants of horses from a Kubub stud farm that was abandoned during World War One.

Lüderitz is a captivating coastal town where German colonial architecture meets dramatic desert landscapes and rich history. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply seeking a unique travel experience, Lüderitz offers a variety fascinating places to see including the Lüderitz Museum, Maritime Museum, Felsenkirche (Church on the Rock), Goerke Haus, Bogenfels Rock Arch, Shark Island, Diaz Point, Waterfront etc.

On your way in or out, you can explore Kolmanskop, approximately 10km away. An elegant place which grew as greed flourished but then, richer diamond deposits were found elsewhere and with that, Kolmanskop was abandoned and the desert is now reclaiming it.

Today, you will spend most of the day on the road to our next destination, the Namib Desert and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei. The 500km travel may take approximately 7-8 hours of driving.

The mesmerizing landscape will keep you engaged throughout the trip until your arrival in Sesriem. You’ll arrive, relax and freshen up. Have some dinner and then retreat for the night.

Discover the magic of Sossusvlei renowned for its towering dunes, ancient landscape, and the iconic Deadvlei. Access to the area is through the Sesriem Gate which is open by sunrise. From the gate you will drive for about an hour along a mesmerizing landscape to get to Sossusvlei itself.  Its recommended to be an early bird so that you can marvel as the sun rise across the dunes.

Exploring Big Daddy, Dead Vlei and Dune 45 will be the highlights of the day. Thereafter, you can go back to the lodge for lunch and rest before dinner. Recommended optional extras you may enjoy include a guided nature drive or a hot air balloon safari.

After breakfast you will make your way from to the cooler coastline cities of Walvis bay and Swakopmund. Along the way, you can stop at Solitaire, about 80km from Sesriem for some home-made bakes and an ice cold drink. The journey will reveal another dimension of Namibia’s beautiful landscapes as the mountains and giant sand dunes disappear to break taking open plains and endless horizons.
